Activity 8: Polling & Data Gathering

With "formative" and "summative" assessment terms being thrown around the educational landscape like shot puts at the Olympics, this week's exercise will focus on Web 2.0 tools that allow you to gather valuable information from your students and colleagues.

You can use these tools as informal exit slips to assess comprehension, as a formal pre or post assessment tool, or even to schedule a meeting day and time that works for your PLC.  Here are some examples:

• Create a PollEverywhere account of your own (make sure to select the educator version), create your first poll, and embed it on your blog for campers to sample including a reflection on how it went. Make sure to respond to other campers polls by texting your answers and commenting on their blog posts.

• Making your own Doodle account and Poll is optional but know that it is an option to keep in your tech toolbox.

Google Forms 

"Forms" is part of the Google Drive/Mounds View Apps Suite.  Check out this tutorial for how to navigate and create a form in Google Drive:

• Create your own Google Form. It can be for students or for colleagues.  Embed it in your blog post and/or share it with other recruits, reflect on the process and how you might use it at school.
