Activity 2: Pimp My Presentation

Today’s student expects to be unleashed to create a presentation that fits their swag. Fortunately for teachers, there is a growing list of fantastic (and free) web-based tools for students to use.

Prezi is quickly replacing PowerPoint as the gold standard for presentations.  Its dynamic navigation takes viewers to go on a journey through time and space.  Users can insert text, images or videos to allure their audience. Prezi is a free online tool that is fairly intuitive for users. Go to www.prezi.com or watch the following demo.

Popplet is like Prezi for dummies.  It offers most of the same tools but is more intuitive to navigate. Use it as a presentation board that is either static or dynamic.  Popplet is also a great mind-mapping tool. Go to www.popplet.com or watch the video below for more information.  (Note:  Popplet lets you create 5 presentations with their free trial, but then it's a pay site!)

Animoto (http://animoto.com/) Animoto lets you turn photos, video clips, and music into a short dynamic video that you can easily share. The free version allows you to create a 30 second video/photo slideshow presentation.

To Complete Activity 2: Pimp My Presentation
  • Create an account for one type of presentation tool.
  • Create a presentation that includes text, still pictures and embedded video.
  •  Embed or link the presentation to your blog.
  • Post a reflection of the tool for others to see.
  • Comment on 3 other campers’ presentations and/or posts.

  1. I posted my popplet on my blog. What a weird sentence! I think it could be used, easily, for simple introductory activities with students presenting their popplets. I am going to attempt to figure out where they would put them to have them readily available...probably on their own facebook pages where they could easily open them up on my Smartboard?

  2. I've played around with Prezi before to get an idea how it worked because some students have been using it for their presentations. It's easy to use but I wouldn't necessarily call it 'user friendly'. Popplet is very easy to use and get started with but I found it to limited in what you can do with it. Maybe the purchased version has more to offer. I really like Animoto and used it for my presentation. I wasn't able to figure out an easy way, or any way to embed the video but doing a link was a snap.
